Edwards to Succeed Goodman Smith as Tenure Ends in July
RICHMOND, VA – July 14, 2025 – Leadership Metro Richmond (LMR), a premier community leadership and development organization with a 45-year legacy of strengthening the region by connecting diverse leaders and preparing them to serve, proudly announces the appointment of Christopher A. Edwards as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 11, 2025. Chris succeeds Myra Goodman Smith, who served as CEO for 15 years before her recent retirement.

With decades of experience in mission-driven leadership, strategic visioning, and regional collaboration, Edwards brings a dynamic vision for the future of LMR. As the organization celebrates 45 years of impact, this leadership transition marks a pivotal moment to expand its reach, accelerate innovation, and position the organization as a catalyst for leadership excellence in an evolving global landscape.

Chris most recently served as Director of Mission Advancement at SupportWorks Housing (formerly Virginia Supportive Housing), where he helped guide strategic operations, secure $1.2 million in annual philanthropy and led a transformational rebranding and renaming initiative across multiple regions.
A graduate of Washington and Lee University and Portland State University, Chris has led teams across sectors, from housing and public health to faith communities and higher education, with a focus on building inclusive, people-centered systems.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Chris has called Richmond home for most of his adult life. He brings to LMR a collaborative spirit, strategic vision, and a passion for developing and connecting leaders who drive meaningful community change.
Under Christopher Edwards’ leadership, Leadership Metro Richmond will continue to grow its national network and launch new programs that meet the evolving needs of today’s and tomorrow’s leaders.
