Leadership Quest Recruitment

Each year, LMR accepts a diverse group of community leaders into its flagship program, Leadership Quest. Through a ten-month program — which includes formal community leadership training, access to high-impact decision-makers, and networking opportunities to name a few — these individuals develop the necessary framework to make a positive and lasting impact in the greater Richmond Region. Join us for a virtual conversation with the selection committee chair as well as select LMR alumni who will share about their experience in the program and the application process. We hope you will consider applying for the Class of 2021.

Community leaders have the desire and charge to increase opportunities for families and children, yet often efforts are dampened by systemic inequities based on race, gender and economic status. These are not issues of the past. This year our Speaker Series will present three nationally known thought leaders who will share their perspectives on racial and class inequities.

Convening Leaders Second Topic

In a time when we are all being asked to stay home to protect both ourselves and others, how do you stay home when you have no home?  With a lack of available beds in shelters, insufficient affordable housing, and a growing number of individuals with complex needs facing homelessness already existing prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, this public health and economic crisis has only further exacerbated the variety of challenges many across the Richmond Region are facing when it comes to housing stability. Local media has been covering a rise in funding to provide temporary shelter for the homeless population, but this a short-term fix to a long-term issue with ripple effects that we as community leaders should be considering.  Join us in a virtual discussion with Kelly King Horne ’11 (Executive Director, Homeward) to learn how a history of cross-sector collaboration, government funding, and resources from local organizations are being used to tackle the immediate needs of our homeless population.  We will also discuss what more long-term solutions could look like as the risks and barriers that accompany the challenge of homelessness become more evident for all to see.

Woman Speak Your Truth

Creating safe spaces that require trust, invite vulnerability and foster relationships among this region's community leaders is part of the LMR mission. On the first Thursday of every month, LMR in partnership with Rita Ricks (LMR '89) will host a small group of female alumni for authentic conversation around both their challenges and their hopes for the future. We must be comfortable speaking our truth and be comfortable with some disagreement. It's how we grow and make a difference.
